NFMLTA, in partnership with the MLJ and the National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages (NCOLCTL), offers a variety travel, dissertation, and research support grants for graduate students and other language professionals whose research is related to the expansion, promotion and improvement of the teaching of languages, literatures, and cultures. Deadlines vary for NFMLTA support grants and applications should be completed online.
Awards
NFMLTA is proud to support both the Paul Pimsleur Award for Research in World Language Education and the Emma Marie Birkmaier Award for Doctoral Dissertation Research in World Language. The financial support by NFMLTA for these two awards illustrates the organization’s commitment to research in foreign/world and second language acquisition and to the application of its results to the classroom.
Research
The Modern Language Journal (MLJ) is NFMLTA’s scholarly journal. The MLJ is dedicated to promoting scholarly exchange among researchers and teachers of all modern foreign languages and
English as a second language.
Article contributions are expected to meet the highest standards of scholarly excellence, advance theoretical knowledge, and explore clearly stated and well supported implications for teaching.
