Initiated in 2022, this grant program supports those new to the professoriate (1-5 years in their teaching positions at colleges or universities in the United States immediately after defending the dissertation) who are conducting research projects, whose results can have a positive impact on the field of applied linguistics or language learning and teaching. It funds discrete projects at any stage of the research process including but not limited to instrument development, transcription or translation services, data gathering, coding and analysis, etc.
Recipients receive half the award as an advance with the announcement of the grant, and half upon completion of the grant requirements.
Amount of grant: up to $5000
1 grant will be given during this cycle.
1 grant will be given during the Spring 2026 cycle.
A complete application includes:
- Applicant contact information: Name, physical address, e-mail address, name of applicant’s institution of higher education
- Description of the proposed research. The description should include: purpose of the study, theoretical framework(s), research questions, methodology, importance of the study for language pedagogy, limitations, a preliminary budget detailing how the funds will be used (maximum two pages, single spaced, Times New Roman 12)
- A two-page curriculum vitae
